Jaco Pastorius

By Dave

My blog friend, who goes by the name of Jaco Pastorius, has a great essay on, well, Jaco Pastorius. Pastorius (the blogger) dedicates his site, CUANAS (Christians United Against the New Anti-Semitism), to all that is topical to modern anti-Senitism. He does a particularly good job summarizing the problems with Palistine and its interface with Isreal. This, howevr, is homage to a genius of modern jazz and fusion.

But what got me is that I too discoved Jaco Pastorius, the musician, early on. Those of you who were around during the days when I owned The Gramophone will remember countless hours of Weather Report being played as the reference for listening to the bass in a hi-end hi-fi.

For reference, Jaco (the blogger) lists these as the musician’s best:

To my mind, his best work is contained on the albums:

Heavy Weather, and 8:30 by Weather Report,
Mingus, and Don Juan’s Reckless Daughter by Joni Mitchell
Word of Mouth, by Jaco Pastorius

I concure. Read the article and, if you haven’t already, go get the CD’s. Both are good for the soul.
